Don’t get Caught by Google AdSense Click Fraud

Website owners are increasingly getting their Google Adsense accounts terminated. Considering the potential income from Adsense, losing your account can have a significant detrimental impact.

Click fraud is basically the act of clicking on an Adsense ad on your own site for the purpose of accruing Adsense commission, with no intention of buying from the advertiser who has paid for that advert to appear. It is like paying out cash for false leads. Having said that, many website owners are aware of this fraud and agree that this is a problem which needs eradicating.

The fact is, if you are guilty of click fraud, then Google are within their rights to terminate your Adsense account. You will find the terms and conditions under which you created your Adsense account allows them to take this action in the event that you transgress their policies.

If, however, you feel you have been falsely accused of click fraud, is there anything you can do to argue your case with Google? Well, you can at least try!

Most web hosts offer access logs. From here you will find evidence of the activity on your site, and it may be possible to show that you are not guilty of the stated click fraud.

If you are accused of click fraud, and you know you are not guilty, any evidence that supports your case should be turned over to Google. Your position here is that you need to co-operate in any way you can, and to appear to Google as being in sympathy and agreement with their stance on click fraud.

You can also operate in a preventive mode by studying your server and your click monitoring logs, looking out for any activity that seems suspicious. By reporting in advance anything that you may find odd, you could prevent Google from taking a sanction against your account.

Be truthful and confess to Google about times when you might have clicked on your own Adsense ads, whether accidentally or intentionally for example whilst testing. Indeed, if you feel you may have done something that is against Google’s terms of service, contact Google and tell them. Confessing is far better than Google eventually learning about it.

In addition, do not tell your family or friends about Adsense on your websites, as they may start clicking on them to help you make money without you knowing it. They will be doing you more harm than good. Make sure they understand that they cannot click on your ads under any circumstances.

One action you may consider is to disable Adsense ads for your own IP address and local geographic area. This will certainly help prevent click accidents, thus ensuring Google cannot mistake another user as you. You can do this through the htaccess file.

Most pay per click networks have comprehensive measures in hand to protect website owners against click frauds. They can track more than 50 data points, IP address, browsers information, users session information and pattern recognition. They also have systems available to them that detect fraud, not to mention the specialized teams monitoring activity on behalf of advertisers with a specific view to stopping click frauds.

I hope you can see, click fraud is not worth the risk. The chances are you will be discovered and your Adsense account will be terminated. This will result in that source of income being gone to you forever. Please don’t do it!

Google Threatening Affiliate Programs

If you’re reading this post, then you can expect a flurry of news covering Google’s beta launch of its Pay-Per-Action (PPA) product for AdWords. Yep, after years of hinting, Google is finally ready to let us test their platform on a CPA (cost per action) model. (If this sounds familiar, reports surfaced back in June, that Google was offering a limited test of CPA)

The beta test is restricted to Adsense for content in the U.S., will run separate from the regular auction model, and you may not even get a chance to test it for a few weeks, while they roll it out. That being said, this is a significant expansion of the CPC (cost per click) model, with advertisers being given the option of paying when a customer buys a product, signs up for a newsletter, or completes any other actionable task on the advertiser’s web site.

On the publishing side, Adsense publishers will be able to opt-in to display PPA ads from Google and even whether they wish to display a single ad, a cluster of ads or match to a specific keyword that is relevant to their page content. Publishers also get to preview the ads, including company name, logo etc, before the ads go live.

As the broker between the advertiser and the publisher, Google will take its cut of any incentive offered. For example, if the advertiser offers $2 per sign-up, the publisher may see only $1.50 offered for the same sign-up. Google will pass on to publishers the net-incentive only.

Publishers also get a new “text link ad” format (I wonder what Patrick Gavin will have to say about that), which allows them to display JavaScript ads that appear as a single text link. Publishers will be able to search for text link ads that match their chosen text string. Perfect for bloggers looking to monetize their site, but would prefer to add embedded text links, rather than whole blocks of ads.

Navigate your way to Maximum AdSense Earnings

Most webmasters know that Adsense can generate a sizeable source of additional advertising income.

One of the elements to getting most Adsense revenue is to create websites which are optimized to high paying keywords. Lists are available showing the value of keywords, and there are software products which also provide similar information. If after implementing the high paying keyword strategy, Adsense income is not as much as expected, there may be other aspects of your websites which could benefit from attention.

Having pages with good keywords is one thing. But driving visitors to those pages is another matter, and quite often is the missing factor.

It may pay you to review your site navigation.

It is important to direct traffic to pages which contain Adsense ads relating to high paying keywords. Whatever level of traffic you get to your site, make sure your internal navigation is set up to induce visitors onto pages which earn you the most from your Adsense ads.

A typical website would have menu links on each page. The wording on these links is what attracts the visitor’s attention, and persuades them to click to visit another page of that website. The simple device of having links which contain the words “free” or “download” could prove effective.

You could create catchy descriptions for links. Or try to trigger curiosity, perhaps by using a link which asks a question. You can also use graphics to make your link more noticeable. The secret of effective navigation links is to be creative.

The next element of navigation you might wish to consider in trying to improve your Adsense income is link location. Although it is a normal design convention, links do not always have to be in a list down the left of the page. You could try links at the top of the web page, and at the bottom. You could also try different text styles on different pages. You might consider having bright links interspersed on your web page with headings such as “hot spots”, “most popular”, “most read” etc, whatever is relevant for your type of website.

A great way to get ideas to improve your site’s navigation is to review other websites and see what their webmasters are using. When you visit other websites try to think like a visitor, and make a note of the navigation devices that work for you. In other words, something which is effective to you as a visitor could be effective on your site. However, be careful here - do not breach site owners’ copyrights. Don’t just copy something word for word. Be sure to apply your own touch so you don’t fall foul of copyright issues.

Before you begin changing the navigation on your website, it is important you have a mechanism to track the results of your changes. There are many Adsense tracking systems available, and you will find it essential to implement one of these in order that you can assess the effectiveness of changes you make.

So, let the testing begin. Test and track until you find the site navigation style that earns you the most Adsense income.

Make Sure You Don’t Get Your AdSense Account Terminated

Being the undisputable leader in search engines, Google is placing high importance on the quality and relevancy of content when running its searches. The quality of returned results are extremely important to the viability and future potential of this massive company.

For this same reason, doing the wrong things in the Adsense and other forms of advertisements, whether intentionally or unintentionally, can result in severe penalties. Indeed, you may even get banned and have your account terminated.

So, if you use Adsense on your websites, or are considering using Adsense for the first time, avoid falling into the trap of using any of the following:

Clicking on Adsense ads on your pages

As your Adsense revenue is determined by how many times Adsense ads on your web pages are clicked, it can be very tempting to go onto your own pages and click the Adsense ads. Please don’t do this. Google views this practice as fraud, and it will usually lead to your Adsense account being terminated. You also need to be careful of getting friends or colleagues clicking on your Adsense ads. Google have highly sophisticated monitoring software which can detect click patterns and locations. For example, they are able to determine when unusually high click rates come from a single IP address. The only way to be really safe here is to never have your Adsense ads clicked by you or anyone you know.

Hidden texts

Using text too small to read, or text having the same color as the background or using css for the sole purpose of loading your page with keywords, will be taken by Google as you attempting to illegally influencing their search algorithms.

Page cloaking

This is a practice whereby you attempt to deceive Googlebots - the automatic sniffers which Google sends out to find and index new and changed web pages. With page cloaking, you serve the Googlebots a different page to that which the visitor will see. The idea is that your Googlebot page looks authentic and has good keyword characteristics, thus getting you a high search engine position. However, when a visitor clicks on your site in the search return list, they are taken to a different page - one which is specifically designed to elicit a click on Adsense or other ads. In other words, they are not shown the page which the Googlebots indexed.

Note that these are only a few of the reasons why Google may consider you are violating the terms and conditions to which you agreed when you opened your Adsense account.

One final word. When Google email you to tell you that they are terminating your Adsense account, they do not tell you specifically which policies you have violated. In effect, they don’t inform you why your account is being closed.

There is an appeals process which you can invoke, but this can be time consuming and ultimately may prove to be a fruitless avenue for you. And all the while you are in the appeals process, you are not earning any Adsense income

To be on the safe side, and to avoid account termination happening to you, simply avoid falling foul of any of the items listed in this article.

7 Tips to Maximise Your Adsense Money Making

Adsense is without doubt one of the most powerful tools in a website publisher’s arsenal when it comes to easy and free ways to monetize a website. If used correctly, it can generate a very nice ongoing income without very little work from your part. However if not used properly you are putting money on the table and not maximizing your income in a way you could be doing.

To start filling up your bank account with money from Adsense can be done very easily and quickly. You can see great results in very short time and all you need is traffic.

Some steps to get you going:

Write some, keyword rich, quality content articles. Lots of people are given the gift of being good with words and writing comes easy for them. If you are one of them you should write your articles your self to get them as unique and personal as possible. If you are not one of them, don’t despair. There are plenty of good ‘ghost writers’ around that can write you good articles for 7-10$ an article. You can find them on places like Rentaghostwriter.com and many other outsourcing sites.

Actually there are three steps to consider before beginning to writing your articles to go along with your Adsense ads.

#1: Keyword Research. Find popular keywords, subjects or phrases. After doing so, select the ones which you think have the best appeal to people and the keywords the most people will be searching for. Optimize your articles for these articles and you will see more targeted people coming to your article and more people clicking on your Adsense ads. I suggest you use on of the free, or paid, tools out there to determine what are the best keywords to optimize for and which keywords are paying the most!

#2: Article Writing. Start writing unique content from scratch featuring the keywords you have chosen. Make you articles above 400 words, preferably 600-2500 words, and make sure they are free from spelling mistakes. Then make your keywords bold to make it easier for the search engines to know what your articles are really about.

#3: Website Quality Content. Building content rich quality sites takes time and can be pretty much work but in the long haul it will pay off. Incorporated Adsense ads into your site on places where people are likely to click on them and you could have some nice extra income or even a full time income actually, if you are lucky.

#4: Positioning. Do the positioning of your ads carefully. It is of course to position your ads where surfers are most likely to click on them. To directly encourage clicking is a violation to the Google Adsense terms of service. However, there are plenty of ways to attract clicks without doing anything wrong. #5: Adsense Tracking. Lastly, Adsense has some really great tracking statistics at your disposal. These stats allow you to track your results across a number of sites and pages. Many webmasters never use these stats but you should! It is one extremely powerful tool to help you find out which ads are performing the best and which sites and pages generates the most cash. By analyzing your stats you can fine tune your Adsense ads and focus on the ones generating the most profit in your pocket, rather than the ones being ignored by the visitors.

#6: Death of Banners. Banners and skyscrapers are dead - Ask the experts! I am not going to paint it all pitch black but basically banners are not pulling nearly as good as it did a few years ago. Today text ads are the way to go. So unless you already have tons of visitors you would better forget about banners and skyscrapers all together. Why? Simply because surfers generally ignore these kinds of ad formats as they are recognized as an advertisement and ads are rarely of any interest.

#7: Focus, Focus, Focus. As with all things, proper planning is essential for long terms success. You need to know your goals and how to achieve them. To Start Making Money With Adsense, you should keep focus on what you wanted to achieve and how you will get there. Couple a good plan with proper patience, take action, and success will come as a result.

Small adjustments to your Adsense ads and the pages they are displayed on can make huge changes to your income. Do not just ignore your site and your Adsense ads once they are set up. Make adjustments regularly to constantly increase your click through rates and maximizing your profits.

Brian is a webmaster. Well, he likes to think he is anyway. All you have to do is have a website up, right? His website is about contact lenses. He has some experience with them and what he doesn’t know, he learns. He has spent the last several days trying to figure out a way to make money on his website. He has some traffic coming to the site already and is working on building that. But, he has heard of a program that can give him additional profit by doing very little. And, it was something offered by Google which means it has to be good, right?

What Brian doesn’t know is that Google Adsense is a great way to make additional income to his website by doing next to nothing really. The program is run by Google, a well known (probably the best) search engine on the internet. What it does is very simple. For Brian, it worked like this. Once you design a website, you will contact the Google Adsense program. They will request information about your website and then give you a code to use. Importance of Branding: What’s in a Name?

A company’s brand is its definition in the world, the name that identifies it to itself and the marketplace. A model may be beautiful, but without a name, she’s just “that girl in that picture.” Where would Norma Jean be without Marilyn Monroe, or who would imagine Coca-Cola as just a soft-drink manufacturer?

A brand provides a concrete descriptor to customers and competitors alike, a name for a product or service to distinguish it from anything else. Bob may run a hobby shop, but trying to advertise as “The hobby shop a guy named Bob runs down the street a ways” is financial suicide. Each customer will have to describe the shop, who Bob is, and what the shop does every time someone asks about it.

This makes the process of recommending a good hobby shop too much work for the average customer, and far too much work for a user looking for hobby shops on the Internet. A customer looking up Bob’s hobby shop will have an easier time of it if he or she knows to refer to it as “Bob’s House of Hobbies,” and the customer can then refer others to Bob’s hobby shop by name, increasing the potential advertising exponentially.

Developing a brand involves more than just picking a catchy name and placing an ad in the newspaper–a brand is more than a unique string of letters denoting a particular product; a successful brand is a mnemonic trigger that makes a consumer feel a certain way when the brand is thought of.

For those who drink cola-flavored soft drinks, which is more appealing on a hot day: a cold cola soda, or an ice-cold Coke? Coca-Cola has spent 100 years developing their particular brand of cola-flavored soda as a refreshing beverage and a seminal representation of a market segment. Coca-Cola has used a combination of direct marketing, give-away techniques, and multi-product cross-branding to achieve maximum brand recognition and visibility in not only its immediately competitive market, but in markets as diverse as Coca-Cola branded race cars and housewares.

Brand loyalty is an integral part of building a brand, as consumers usually have a choice of products in the same market segment, and so a successful company will come up with a way to keep consumers re-buying their product or coming back to their location rather than going to a competitor. These brand loyalty-building efforts may come in the form of coupons, incentives such as many grocery chains’ technique of “grocery discount cards” or “loss leaders,” meant to draw consumers into the store, where they will hopefully buy products along with the discounted fare at a higher profit ratio.

In exchange for these discounts and grocery cards, many companies collect information about buying habits and average spending amounts, the better to tailor advertisements and better-focus future promotional efforts. Once a consumer is hooked, brand loyalty tends to result in higher sales volume, as well as loyal customers being less sensitive to price changes of their favorite brands (within reason, of course), as well as less sensitive to competitors’ incentives. Studies have shown that it takes 5 times as much money to gain a customer as it does to retain one. That’s 5 times as much money as could have been spent on other things.

A brand is who your company is, and what it is selling–it is as important as naming a baby, and should require the same amount of effort to develop it, but if done well, can mature into a successful and profitable adult.

This now leads us to the question of whether a website is required or necessary in affiliate marketing or not.

Many people say that one can do affiliate marketing even without a website to start with. Actually, one can really start promoting and marketing his affiliate products even without a website; and there exist a lot of ways on how this can be done. In fact, many affiliate marketing strategies that leads to success can exist without actually needing a website. Among these strategies are email marketing, offline promotions, writing e-books, writing ezines and engaging in online discussions like forums, chats, message boards and others.

Email marketing, or maintaining email lists, is actually the most popular affiliate marketing strategy that doesn’t require the affiliate to maintain a website. In this affiliate marketing strategy, what you basically do is maintain a list of the email ads of your prospective customers and provide them with articles that are relevant with the affiliate products and programs you are promoting. Articles that you provide your contacts with need not always be promotional, for many individuals find such types of email annoying. Rather, it would be better if you provide them with something informative and just add small text ads that link to your merchant’s site.

*Offline Promotion

There are many ways on how you can promote your affiliate products offline. Among the common medium used for such promotions are classified ads, brochures and flyers. Classified ads would generally work better compared to the other two because classified ads in periodicals often get a wider audience.

*Writing Free e-books

If you have a knack in writing, writing an e-book can be the best way for you to promote your affiliate products in the absence of an actual website. Just like in emails and newsletters, your readers would better appreciate your e-book if it is not too promotional but rather informative. With or without a website, you just can’t ignore online discussions because they are great venues for marketing your affiliate products. With all these strategies, it may appear that one really doesn’t need to have a website to start marketing his affiliate products and promoting his affiliate programs. Well, starting in an affiliate program without a website may be easy, but getting successful in affiliate marketing without a website is another thing. While one can actually gain enormous success in affiliate marketing even without a website, it is a rare instance that “newbies” like you can reach the same levels of success.

Having a website is not really a pre-requisite in entering into an affiliate program, unless otherwise the program owner would require you to have one. But while this is so, I would still recommend that you have for yourself a website, if not now, then maybe at a later time. Having a website creates a lot of advantages in affiliate marketing. For one, it provides you a place where you can creatively promote not only one of your affiliate products but all of your affiliate products. With a website, you can also advertise your affiliate products to a wider market.

Again, having a website is not a requirement in affiliate marketing. But with the advantages that a website can provide, I’d rather have one for myself and make affiliate marketing a lot easier for me.
